1998 V70 2.5 10V I have an intermitent ABS light. This sometimes comes on when the car is started, sometimes goes out after a while, or comes on again later. I've had the ABS module out and checked the connections and resoldered them even though they looked OK.

Initially I suspected (and replaced) the ignition switch as I was also getting relay chatter on turning the key. I've borrowed a VAGCOM USB lead and downloaded the demo VOL-FCR software. The software picks up that the lead is there but no joy on trying to connect (VOL-FCR throws a different error if the USB is disconnected). Am I missing something? I know it won't connect to the Fenix ECU; Am I right in thinking it will talk to the ABS unit though?

Is the OBD2 pin-out different on a Fenix car? There's no way to set a baud rate - does it auto detect on USB? I'm using: Windows XP on Virtualbox (W7 host) Rosstech VAG106 cable (USB) The Rosstech drivers from their website. Any help much appreciated - MOT in 5 weeks! Thanks guys, Should the VAG-COM software itself see the Volvo ABS (noting your points Chris)? Does it try all the baud rates to see what it can connect with, in which case does that take a minute or so?

I presume when using VOL-FCR you are not running VAGCOM so those settings are not used? There are no connection settings in VOL-FCR so presumably these are hard-coded. This weekend I shall check out all the ABS wiring - presumably I can measure the wheel sensor resistances from the ABS unit multiplug. What are typical resistances?

Am I right in thinking there is a pedal pressure sensor, or does it just use the brake light switch? Can this sensor be tested? I will check the wheel rings for corrosion but since the ABS light comes on before the car moves I'm guessing rings would only show up when the wheels start to rotate. Thanks for your offer Yosser, I may well take you up on that. I presume ABS codes are logged until reset, as the ABS light is intermittent the fault may be hard to find.

The VAGCOM lead I've borrowed is the HEX-CAN one which has the inbuilt dongle for the VCDS software. I'm led to beleive it started life in China. I downloaded the VOL-FCR demo which has the radio button for USB.

It does see the lead. I wonder if the trouble is the lead interface at the OBD2 end. WIth so many variants out there I've no idea what to buy. The VOLFCR website has no mention of what cable to use. What cable should I be buying? What version?

Anyone got it working with a USB lead? Thanks for your help SHI. The VAGCOM lead I've borrowed is the HEX-CAN one which has the inbuilt dongle for the VCDS software. Anyone got it working with a USB lead? Thanks for your help SHI Vol-FCR does not have a radio button for USB, there are two USB versions: One for use with a genuine Ross-Tech VCDS lead which uses the Ross-Tech USB drivers, but you do have to select 'boot in dumb mode' from the VCDS programme first. So you need to have VCDS installed and working to use this lead with Vol-FCR. The second USB version is for use with a dumb OBD lead with the FTDI chipset, it uses the FTDI drivers from the FTDI website. Thanks eveyone.
